Water Resistance Explained: 30m vs 50m vs 100m (What It Really Means)
Water resistance ratings are one of the most misunderstood parts of watch buying. Here’s the practical way to interpret 30m, 50m, and 100m ratings for real life.
30m / 3 ATM
Think: splashes, hand washing, light rain. Not swimming.
50m / 5 ATM
Usually fine for daily wear and occasional splashes, but not ideal for regular swimming.
100m / 10 ATM
The “easy life” rating for a daily tool watch. If you want travel confidence, 100m is a great baseline.
Also matters: gaskets + age
Water resistance isn’t permanent. Seals age. If you swim with your watch regularly, occasional pressure testing is smart.
